Angela Lu

Angela has been teaching English as a Second Language for over 30 years, and teaching children aged 3-14 with Jolly Phonics & Grammar and Jolly Music. She believes that good teachers teach well, but better teachers motivate students to self motivate themselves to learn! By using the songs from Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, Angela creates a fun environment for the students. By structuring the classroom so students know what is expected of them, Angela creates disciplined and motivated students. She is currently holding workshops for both teachers and parents with Jolly Knowledge Association in Hong Kong, helping to implement Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, and develop teachers' skills. She is eager to help other teachers to learn the joys that teaching with Jolly Series can bring as well as ensuring that, once learnt, those skills are used for their further English Language education.

Beverly Sace

Mui Wo, Lantau

Beverly is a highly sought-after curriculum developer and literacy consultant, who supports teachers and schools in curriculum design, school-wide implementation and classroom teaching in their use of Jolly Phonics. As a teacher trainer, she travels extensively in China and Asia to deliver training sessions for pre-service and in-service teachers across the key stages, from early years to secondary, and increasingly as a speaker in university classrooms. Using Jolly Phonics, she investigated young children's reading and spelling skills for her masters research at the University of York. She has been providing synthetic phonics and other literacy professional development courses since 2010. She is the author of Vocabfonix, which uses Jolly Phonics to teach spelling. She personally teaches children with learning difficulties using Jolly Phonics, which has yielded spectacular progress for her students. In addition, she also delivers courses to parents on how to support their children’s reading development at home, thereby increasing support and speeding up reading acquisition.   Beverly is currently retraining to become an educational psychologist and has a special interest in children's literacy development. Jolly Phonics is Beverly’s programme of choice – it works excellently with very young learners, delayed readers, as well as children with special needs. She is known for her very detailed training sessions with every participant walking away enlightened, reflecting her deep knowledge and extensive experience with Jolly Phonics as well as how brains learn to read. David Calia

David Calia is an American teacher whose teaching in China first started in 2006. He holds a master degree in special education M.A.Ed and TESOL certification. His teaching experiences in China range from teaching in an international school, a kindergarten, a primary school and a training school using Jolly Phonics in each of these. David has seen the success of using this method of teaching and the confidence of the children in being able to read. He is excited at being able to train teachers to achieve in this way. Yuan is an experienced children’s English and Music teacher since 2004. She is a native Chinese and is commonly known as Lydia-her English name. She was introduced to Jolly Phonics in 2009 while working in an international school. She has since founded her own language school in the south of China and she has experienced amazing results in her students as well as the English teachers that she works with. Lydia is eager to help increase awareness of Phonics in China and help provide high quality English phonics teaching and learning for parents, teachers and students.

Winnie Pang

Winnie is an experienced and qualified teacher of English as a foreign language. She has used Jolly Phonics with very young Asian learners and seen excellent results – their literacy develops at a steady pace and they keep returning for more as their confidence grows! Having worked as the Phonics Coordinator of the British Council Hong Kong, Winnie played a major role in developing and writing their popular Phonics courses. Winnie is the now the lead trainer of the course ‘Certificate in Phonics Teaching to Young Learners’, and she is happy to see the 8th cohort of this 36-hour course to start at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as the University of Macau in the last quarter of 2022. Winnie has also been providing Phonics training to in-service Primary school teachers for the Hong Kong Education Bureau since 2017. She is always keen to share her passion in teaching reading and writing using Jolly Phonics with teachers and parents alike.
