Andus Li

Hong Kong

Andus established her academy in 1986, providing extra-curricular lessons to students aged 3 to 13 and covering phonics, creative writing, speech and bible lessons. In 26 years, as at 2024, her academy has served over 8000 students and conducted over 130 training workshops for parents, teachers and principals, with complementary topical seminars on parenthood, education planning and related matters. It also provides a realm for students, parents and teachers to all learn together. About one third of the training was conducted in-school through lectures, parent briefing, in-class assessment, demonstrating the methods through short enhancement courses with students of the recipient schools, lesson planning and progress reviews - in sync with the needs of each school. The service has covered 100+ individual kindergartens and groups in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou. As supporting service, Andus distributes Jolly Phonics books and products. Andus has also authored a set of phonics text book published by another publisher. From 2024, building on experience accumulated in 26 years, she will put more effort on training and enrichment of training materials to further promote this excellent teaching system.

Angela Lu

Angela has been teaching English as a Second Language for over 30 years, and teaching children aged 3-14 with Jolly Phonics & Grammar and Jolly Music. She believes that good teachers teach well, but better teachers motivate students to self motivate themselves to learn! By using the songs from Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, Angela creates a fun environment for the students. By structuring the classroom so students know what is expected of them, Angela creates disciplined and motivated students. She is currently holding workshops for both teachers and parents with Jolly Knowledge Association in Hong Kong, helping to implement Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, and develop teachers' skills. She is eager to help other teachers to learn the joys that teaching with Jolly Series can bring as well as ensuring that, once learnt, those skills are used for their further English Language education.

Beverly Sace

Mui Wo, Lantau

Beverly is a highly sought-after curriculum developer and literacy consultant, who supports teachers and schools in curriculum design, school-wide implementation and classroom teaching in their use of Jolly Phonics. As a teacher trainer, she travels extensively in China and Asia to deliver training sessions for pre-service and in-service teachers across the key stages, from early years to secondary, and increasingly as a speaker in university classrooms. Using Jolly Phonics, she investigated young children's reading and spelling skills for her masters research at the University of York. She has been providing synthetic phonics and other literacy professional development courses since 2010. She is the author of Vocabfonix, which uses Jolly Phonics to teach spelling. She personally teaches children with learning difficulties using Jolly Phonics, which has yielded spectacular progress for her students. In addition, she also delivers courses to parents on how to support their children’s reading development at home, thereby increasing support and speeding up reading acquisition.   Beverly is currently retraining to become an educational psychologist and has a special interest in children's literacy development. Jolly Phonics is Beverly’s programme of choice – it works excellently with very young learners, delayed readers, as well as children with special needs. She is known for her very detailed training sessions with every participant walking away enlightened, reflecting her deep knowledge and extensive experience with Jolly Phonics as well as how brains learn to read. Gary Yung

Hangzhou

Gary Yung has been teaching young children English reading and writing for over 20 years. He is also involved in designing curriulum and teacher training for international kindergartens.His doctoral dissertation focused on the comparison study of English teaching materials in China and Hong Kong. He also holds an M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from UBC, Canada; an M.S. degree in educational psychology from California State University, USA. He helped establish a number of international kindergartens in China. Back in 2000, Gary introduced Jolly Phonics to many kindergartens in Hong Kong with impressive results. When Jolly Phonics became popular in Hong Kong, he began to give trainings to a large number of English teachers form different international schools and kindergarten in Hong Kong. More recently he has been involved in promoting Jolly Phonics in China. He has travelled to many cities to give presentations and trainings to teachers from state schools and language training centres. Gary is active in organising training workshops in Hong Kong and China. He also offers online training in both regions. Pun Kelly Basanti

Pun Kelly Basanti has a wealth of experience in teaching English language as a native English teacher. For more than 13 years she has taught at Kindergartens, Primary schools, Secondary schools, and various English language learning centers. She holds a Bachelor of Language Studies (English), a Postgraduate Certificate in English Studies, a Master of Education in English Language Education, (240 hrs - Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), and a certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL). Currently, she is doing a Doctor's Degree in English Language Education. Kelly takes pride in nurturing and guiding the teachers and students to develop a love for learning that enhances their ability to become contributing citizens in their life. She has taught Jolly Phonics, and Jolly Grammar for over 13 years. Her patient, yet firm, and consistent demeanor has allowed her to be successful in reaching teachers and students with varying needs, making learning exciting for her students. In her experience, she finds teamwork to be an essential element to achieving many goals, so she looks forward to sharing her knowledge with the new teachers or the teachers who are struggling to teach to enrich the quality of teaching Jolly Phonics.

Robin Chan

With more than 20 years of experience in teaching English, Robin (B.Ed., TESOL) has been teaching Jolly Phonics for over 10 years. He has witnessed how effective using synthetic phonics with young children is, and the wonderful results it produces. As a phonics specialist, Robin is currently involved in one-to-one teaching of Jolly Phonics to K-1 & K-3 pupils in Hong Kong. Robin provides reading assessments for pupils and advice to parents to help develop their child’s literacy. Robin also specializes in teaching English Grammar and writing to children who have mastered phonics skills.

Winnie Pang

Hong Kong SAR China

Winnie is an experienced and qualified teacher of English as a foreign language. She has used Jolly Phonics with very young Asian learners and seen excellent results – their literacy develops at a steady pace and they keep returning for more as their confidence grows! Having worked as the Phonics Coordinator of the British Council Hong Kong, Winnie played a major role in developing and writing their popular Phonics courses. Winnie is the now the lead trainer of the course ‘Certificate in Phonics Teaching to Young Learners’, and she is happy to see the 8th cohort of this 36-hour course to start at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as the University of Macau in the last quarter of 2022. Winnie has also been providing Phonics training to in-service Primary school teachers for the Hong Kong Education Bureau since 2017. She is always keen to share her passion in teaching reading and writing using Jolly Phonics with teachers and parents alike.
